Peter has been directly involved in the finance and securities industry since 1973, and during that time has gained extensive experience in Banking and Merchant Banking with the ANZ Banking Group, BA Australia Ltd, and Hill Samuel (now Macquarie Bank). Peter has been involved in stockbroking since 1984, running Bain and Company’s (now Deutsche Bank) worldwide equities division, with responsibility for their London, New York, Geneva, Singapore, Hong Kong and Australian operations. Subsequent to that, Peter became the Managing Partner of MacDougall and Company Limited, a member firm of the Sydney stock exchange, which he and his Partners sold to the Bank of Singapore in the early 1990’s.
Peter is currently the Executive Chairman of Harper Bernays Limited. In recent years he has also spent considerable time managing and acting as co-trustee of, in conjunction with the ANZ Bank, the Harper Bernays Charitable Trust, which supports a range of charitable activities in the arts, medical research, and poverty relief, both in Australia and the wider Asian region. Peter has an MBA from Melbourne University and was, until its listing, a member of the Australian Stock Exchange.
Christopher Bernays has worked in the Finance Industry for most of his working Life. His experience includes Finance, Stockbroking and Merchant Banking positions. Chris holds a Bachelor of Business Degree from the NSW Institute of Technology (now the University of Technology Sydney).
Prior to joining Harper Bernays, Chris was employed by Perpetual Trustees Australia Limited for five years until 1988. During this time, he acted as the Investment Manager for the company and its clients. His responsibilities included management of Perpetual Trustee Limited’s equity and fixed interest funds as well as the groups own investment portfolio.
Ron Heinrich is an independent non-executive director of the company. Ron has been a practising solicitor since 1971. He is a senior partner and member of the board of partners at the Sydney law firm TressCox Lawyers and has been employed by that company since 1967. Ron has held numerous directorships, as well as maintaining a strong relationship with the Law Society of NSW, of which he has been a past president. He is a past president of the Law Council of Australia. He has also served as the President of the Commonwealth Lawyers Association. Ron’s expertise covers many facets of commercial and corporate law, including corporations law, acquisitions and mergers, restructuring, taxation and superannuation.
Alan is an independent, non-executive director of the Company. From 1997 to March 2006, Alan was the CEO & Executive Director of the Insurance Council of Australia. Prior to that he was the Chief Executive of two insurance companies (including LawCover Pty Ltd, which manages the Solicitors Mutual Indemnity Fund for the NSW Law Society) and held a variety of Executive roles within the Insurance Industry in the UK, South Africa & Australia. He has had wide experience as a non-executive director in a variety of organisations, including Australian Medical Insurance Limited, and is currently a director of Comcover (Department of Finance & Administration, Australian Government, Advisory Board).
Alan holds a BA (Hons) from Kings College University of London & is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. He brings general strategy skills to the Board, as well as considerable & relevant skills in managing risk & compliance issues.
Stuart has been Company Secretary since October 2000. He is a partner in the accounting firm Mawby Cowper Meares & Co and was admitted to the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia as an Associate in March 1989. Stuart’s expertise includes accounting, tax, audit and statutory compliance of SMEs.
Greg Forsyth joined Harper Bernays in March 2003, as a Senior Portfolio Manager.
Greg has been known to various directors of Harper Bernays for many years and brings a wealth of relevant industry experience to the management of portfolios.
Greg’s experience includes time as both a Trust Officer and Portfolio Manager at Permanent Trustees prior to entering Stockbroking in the late 1980s. Greg was a Partner at Herbert P Cooper & Sons, one of Australia’s oldest and most respected private client advisory stockbroking firms, prior to that firm being sold to Hartley Poynton Ltd in 1998. Greg brings to the firm his many years of providing advice on equities and portfolios to high net worth individuals.
Tony O’Regan joined Harper Bernays in September 2002, as a Senior Research Analyst. He has been working in the Funds Management industry since 1997, having previously been employed as an Analyst/Portfolio Manager at Aberdeen Asset Management, which was formerly known as Equitilink Australia Limited. Prior to this, Tony practiced briefly as a Solicitor. Tony holds a Bachelor of Economics and a Bachelor of Laws from Monash University.
Chris Main joined Harper Bernays in May 2007 as an Investment Analyst after working in institutional stockbroking at Tolhurst Ltd and Lodge Partners for over 2 years. Prior to stockbroking Chris worked in the agricultural industry and for a rural based financial planning firm. Chris holds a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture degree from the University of Sydney and a Graduate Diploma of Applied Finance and Investment from the Securities Institute of Australia (now Finsia).
Mark Yarwood joined Harper Bernays in September 2008 as a Senior Investment Analyst with specific responsibility for our in-house research capability. Before joining Harper Bernays, Mark held a General Management position at Telstra overseeing a range of Strategy and Planning issues.
Prior to that, Mark spent ten years, as a Principal and then a Director, firstly with PriceWaterhouse Coopers and then Deloittes, providing consulting services to a range of clients in the UK, Continental Europe and Australia.
Mark holds a B.Sc (Hons) in Computer Science and Pure Maths, and studied his MBA at the Australian Graduate School of Management and the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, Chicago.
